Planning is key for a successful brand shoot

When it comes to brand photography that genuinely reflects who you are and what your business stands for, there’s one thing that makes all the difference and is planning your brand shoot. Whether you’re an experienced entrepreneur or just starting out, taking the time to plan ahead can transform a simple photoshoot into an experience that captures the heart of your brand.

So, why is planning your brand shoot absolutely worth the effort?

Outfits

Picking the right outfits is one of the most enjoyable parts of planning your brand shoot! The key is to bring a range of options so we can capture the many sides of your brand. Think smart-casual, something more polished, and maybe even a fun, bold look that reflects your personality.

Layers, textures, and a splash of colour can really enhance your photos, adding depth and variety.

Hair and Makeup

Now, this one’s totally up to you, but if your budget allows, having your hair professionally styled and makeup done can make a big difference! It’s not about looking like someone else but rather helping you feel like the best, most confident version of yourself. And when you feel great, it shines through in the photos!

Whether you’re going for a natural look or something a little more polished, the goal is to feel at ease in front of the camera. Trust me, it really does make a world of difference!

Choosing the perfect location

The right location can truly set the tone for your brand shoot. Ideally, we want a space that offers a variety of colours, textures, and backdrops. I always recommend beautiful, light-filled rooms, cosy corners, or even outdoor spaces if the weather’s on our side!

The trick is to find somewhere that aligns with the story you want to tell. When planning your brand shoot, it’s worth considering how the setting complements your brand’s aesthetic. I am always happy to offer suggestions to where we could use. Sometimes it’s worth spending a little money hiring a space to get the most out of the photos.

Personal touches and props

Props can be brilliant for adding that extra bit of character to your photos! Whether it’s your favourite book, or some tools of your trade, these little details can help make the photos feel more authentic and uniquely you.

If you’re someone who loves reading, painting, or even your pet dog that you bring to work, try to incorporate those elements into your shoot as they’ll not only look great but also help to tell your brand story.

Create a mood board for inspiration

One of my favourite tips when you’re getting started is to put together a little mood board before the shoot. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy – just a collection of images, colours, and poses that inspire you. This helps clarify the look and feel you’re after and gives us a clear direction on the day.

Focus on the story you want to tell

At the heart of your brand shoot is the story you want to share and this really is the most important part. Take a bit of time before the shoot to think about the message you want your photos to convey. Is it all about your playful, creative side? Or perhaps you want to highlight your professionalism and expertise? Whatever it is, planning your brand shoot with that story in mind will make the photos feel so much more meaningful.

Relax and enjoy the process

Finally, (and most importantly) – breathe! Planning your brand shoot is all about setting yourself up for a stress-free, enjoyable experience. The more we prepare, the more relaxed you’ll feel on the day, and that’s when the magic happens.
