Meet your local wedding and family photographer

As a wedding and family photographer I’m always sharing photos of other people I thought it was about time I shared a few photos of myself and my family. And for those that haven’t yet met me I wanted to tell you a little more about myself and my story, the Beth behind the camera. Well here I am! Usually carefully placed taking the shot it was a new experience and a great reminder of what it's like to be photographed and how it is so important I put you at ease. If you're anything like me any hint of awkwardness my thumbs pop up in front of me and a cheesy grin is displayed. This photo was taken by my friend Rob Dodsworth who did a great job making me feel at ease even after a night of no sleep due to a new born. I think half of the job of a photographer is to make you feel comfortable. How you are feeling will shine into the photograph, so if you are tense and stiff you will be able to spot it when looking back at your photographs.

My family

Here I am with my son Eben ( a Welsh name very popular in the mid 1800's haha) and partner Stu on New Years day on Holkham beach. This photo is particularly precious to me as there are so few photos of us all together. It’s either because I’m the one always taking the photo (such a familiar story!) and so never in it or my partner is pulling a funny face. Actually the process of photographing Stu always cracks me up. He has a range of about 30 different silly faces he pulls whilst I am taking a photo and shouting, whilst laughing (a lot), wobblerling the camera as I chuckle and repeating “nooo Stu, stop. Smile!” It made me think that even though I do this for a job it makes a huge difference delegating and having a non-family member take the photograph, people are more inclined to play along.

I’ve just printed this photo up, framed it and proudly put it on display on my mantel piece. It gives me so much pleasure.

Things I like: hunting for glow worms (I’ve still only seen one and that was years ago), wild swimming and camping, drinking ale, long distance bike riding although I haven’t done that in ages, my boys, photography and running my own business! After I completed my degree in photography I actually decided I didn’t want to be a photographer and worked for a variety for arts and health charities in London before returning to Norwich and deciding not only did I want to be a photographer I wanted to start my own businesses. I had no idea what this would entail, I sometimes think a little bit of naivety is how best things start!

Four images that show what Beth likes to do for fun. Walks, going to the beach, bon fired and being creative
