Last week I went away with my little family. Not travelling far, we stayed in a friend's 1960s chalet on the edge of Cromer. We like to visit each year as I think there's something lovely about revisiting the same place and establishing strong family memories for my son in familiar surroundings. It got me thinking, is location important for your family photo shoot in the sunshine?

It got me thinking about where people choose to have as the location for their family shoot in the sunshine. It must work well technically for photography - not too dark or dingy, whilst also being aesthetically pleasing. But does it matter if you have fond memories there too? I think it does.

Maybe it's the same beach you visited as a child with your parents and have returned to with your children. Or is it in the village you were proposed to, exchanged vows at and now come to with your young ones?

When the photographs are delivered to you, you'll find you don't just get drawn to your expressions, hugs and smiles but you'll also pick up on where you were standing, the buildings, the beach huts, the coastline.
